Flybe take to the skies with Clue® Trader
March 2005
Flybe went live out of Exeter with SkyTrader, running on SkyPad Plus units, in March 2005. The SkyPad Plus devices are now used to support inflight sales across their route network, which now encompasses 108 routes, 40 airports and spans 7 countries.
Flybe's move from a manual system to the current one was significant, as they had not previously used computers onboard for inflight sales. Training was key to the success of the implementation. After a 'Train the Trainers' course run by Clue® Trader representatives, the Flybe training team were able to pass on their knowledge to the rest of the crew, who were quick to learn.
Flybe are our second customer to use GPRS technology to transfer the flight data to and from the aircraft. Using this unique method of data transfer enables Flybe to benefit from the same logistical advantages as First Choice Airways - they have immediate availability of data and avoid the physical movement of data cards between the aircraft and the back office.
To control the operation from the ground, Flybe chose to use GroundTrader Light with additional modules in the back office. The GroundTrader marketing module provides a useful tool for planning their promotions including various meal deals, vouchers and scratch cards. GroundTrader currently interfaces to Flybe's credit card clearing house system.
We are also working closely with Flybe on future projects, including the use of Bluetooth technology onboard for communication between devices. This and other exciting advancements are possible because of the joint desire to explore new technology with a view to maximising sales onboard.
